Passions

Passions

"Passionate". This was the first word that came to mind when I was asked to describe myself in three words. Read on to find out what I am passionate about and why.

On Sport โšฝ

I am passionate about sport.

As a kid, my favourite hobby was playing soccer. I've played soccer ever since I was 4 years old. I represented my school and district for 7 years and played club soccer thereafter.

Playing and watching sport forms a large part of my life. It is something that has always given me sense of belonging, a feeling of completeness like nothing else. I've formed solid friendships playing team sport. Sports has helped me hone a variety of skills including leadership and communication.

Sport has made me feel strong emotions. Argentina (my favourite team) winning the World Cup in 2022 is a moment I will cherish forever.

Sport Cricket has a bigger following than any religion in India. I've stayed up many nights watching games. I still do.

Lately (thanks to Netflix: Drive to Survive), I have started following Formula 1 (F1). I was never into fast cars but the engineering complexity and competitiveness involved in racing cars above 300 kmph is quite intriguing.

I strongly believe that everyone should play at least one sport.

On Learning - Curiosity and Helpfulness ๐Ÿ“š

I am passionate about learning.

I have always been curious about things. Understanding the motivation and mechanics behind anything (literally) - technology, innovation, decision, philosophy - helps me see the world for more than what it is.

I learn best by asking (and answering) questions (sometimes too many). I find that by helping others understand what I already know, I consolidate my knowledge even more. By teaching, I also feel a sense of contribution and completeness.

โ€œIf you can't explain it to a six-year-old, then you don't understand it yourselfโ€ - Albert Einstein. ๐Ÿ’

Radios is something I have been learning about recently. You can read more about this in "Why VK2MAV".

On Travel โœˆ๏ธ

I am passionate about travel.

When travelling, I meet people from all walks of life. It is crazy how quickly two strangers can form a unique connection and have a humbling conversation. Everyone has something unique to offer.

I enjoy the chirping of the birds and the sound of the leaves when hiking through the calm and peace of a rainforest. I love the feeling of the fresh sea breeze on my face when driving along the coast.

I learn a lot about myself when travelling and the memories I make when I meet new people, I will forever cherish.

I cannot imagine summarising my adventures in a few lines so I encourage you to take a look at my Travel Blogs.

On Food ๐ŸŒฎ

I am passionate about food.

To me, good food is the foundation of genuine happiness. When I'm enjoying a delicious meal with someone, I can have joyous conversations and present the best version of myself.

I am always on the look out for new cuisines and dishes to try.

Cooking for friends and family and seeing them enjoy the food gives me endless joy.

At some point in life, I would love to have my own place that serves as a restaurant, cafe and bar.

On coffee โ˜•๏ธ and whisky ๐Ÿฅƒ

I am passionate about coffee and whisky.

I start most my days with (single origin) espresso. Growing up, I did not have much exposure to coffee. Over the last couple of years, I have visited coffee roasteries and learnt about the history of coffee, how beans are acquired from the fruit, roasted, sourced and graded from different countries and what gives them a certain profile. Extracting an espresso with the perfect crema is one of the best feelings in the world!

I end some of my nights with whisky. In 2020, I found myself trying Scotch whiskies from a variety of bars in Sydney now knowing why. This prompted me to learn about how whisky is made, what makes a smooth Scotch different from sweet Bourbon or a smoky Irish, what aging a whisky in barrel does to the color and the flavour (and the cost ๐Ÿ˜) of single malt. A life goal of mine is to travel the Speyside region of Scotland to try some of my favourite distilleries.

Wine (fermented grape juice) is another beverage I've recently started liking. Australia has a plethora of wine regions and I've visited a few dozen. Check out my tavel blogs on Orange and Mudgee to read about some of my recent wine trips!

On a hot day (or otherwise ๐Ÿ˜‰) I love a cold crisp lager straight from the keg (aka On Tap). I am a huge fan of beers from around the world (German, especially). There is a great selection of draught beers in every local pub and hundreds of breweries around the country. If you're in Sydney, you wouldn't go wrong walking into one randomly at Newtown or Marrickville.

As a lowkey (self-acclaimed) sommelier, I have started building a humble collection of wines and whiskies.
